A couple of weeks ago, I was toying with the idea of offering handmade totes with some organic jersey cotton fabric I had. The fabric turned out to flimsy to make a proper tote so I thought canvas would be a better bet. I had these old cotton dropcloths from when I used to paint with oils, but since I wasn’t working with oil paints anymore, they ended up in the back of my closet gathering dust. I thought these dropcloths would be perfect since they were already “decorated” and heavy enough fabric to create a solid bag. I researched some designs and had my seamstress, Jen Kirshman, sew these designs up for me. I think she did an excellent job of using the right parts of the fabric. So now, I have these limited edition one-of-a-kind bags that I think are super chic. They’ve gotten a really good reception but I haven’t sold one yet. I have them up on Etsy, but I haven’t had much luck with getting purchases from my Etsy page. I will be offering them on my newly designed website (coming soon!).
